A lighthouse caps the coast, if youre not a sailor you dont take much notice of its grandeur or functionality. You know the structure is there, may take a picture in awe but carry on your life without regard for its life saving qualities.
Looking back that is how I treated God. Id call on him time-to-time, acknowledge him at times of need, but generally my life no way reflected the need for God in my life.
A single mum to Dylan, a good job, surrounded by my possessions, holidays and I was in control of my destiny or so I thought.
Occasionally I searched, I looked for that light, for the most I was looking in the wrong place. Being a mum I think made my quest stronger, I no longer had just my own interests but that of my son. I wanted Dylan to experience church and God.
It wasnt until he was eight, that I attended my friend Lisa's baptism and heard our pastor Steve
It was that moment that cast me into the rippling tide; every day from then on in I ebbed outwards into the deeper waters. I could no longer rely on myself, the focus not my capabilities, but Gods. I was at sea and now realised how vital to life the lighthouse was. How vital my relationship to God was. How I needed to explore the amazing gift we have all been offered, only some have acknowledged.
I started attending services at Oasis in October 2008. Hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ made me realise that I had ignored a man who paid the price for me, and countless others. His life and works revealed the Father to everyone who saw him. In walking to the cross and being crucified he carried the weight of everyones sin, past, present and future. I could no longer let that go unrecognised in my life.
After five months I was ready to commit my life to Jesus, and I was baptised on Mothers day in March 2009. Fully committed to let God be my guide and mould my life and decisions. God has a plan for everyone, it may not be revealed, we may not understand the reasons but the Lord is in control whether we like it or not, whether we recognise it or ignore it. Im so blessed to have Jesus with me in every step. Also to have found a church in Oasis, whos teachings remain fixed on Jesus.
