In the Christian life Worship in its widest sense is a term that describes anything that is said or done, which directly or indirectly expresses gratitude to Jesus. This can include reading and praying, serving others, giving, telling people about Jesus and representing him to others and all of these things can take place within a meeting, or during any element of daily life.
Within a Church the term is particularly used to describe the event when the people articulate their gratitude and love for God together. This usually takes the form of collective singing during a service or meeting and is a vital part of Church life.
This area of Church life provokes a lot of discussion and there are many opinions of what songs should be sung and from which book, what instruments should be used if any at all. People sometimes even choose their Church based on what songbook they use! At Oasis we dont use songbooks!
At Oasis we have a contemporary live band (guitar / bass / keyboards / drums) and we sing what we think is the best combination of modern and traditional songs and hymns. Our hope is that the church may sincerely worship Jesus together, in unity through the truth and the passion of each song.
At Jesus birth, the wise men worshiped Him (Matthew 2). At the end of time the whole earth will worship Him (Revelation 4). We believe that the primary purpose of the Christian life is to worship Jesus here and now; Worship is our highest calling.

Pastor Steve Dyer
Steve is a Gowerton boy through and through! He would describe himself as passionate, for Jesus, his wife Bec, Oasis church, his 6 year old dog Zeus and football. Steve was a Liverpool fan in the 80s, but then got converted to Man U in the 90s and still loves them to bits today! Steve is one of the founding members of Oasis Church, which started with six people, in Ben and Rachels living room in January 2008. Steve believes that everybody lives for pleasure, but nobody will ever be satisfied in life until they come to have a relationship with Jesus. Steves life goal is to show as many people as possible how amazing Jesus is.
